Essen Motorshow 2024 - there are forged wheels, baby!
The Essen Motor Show is the last big highlight of the year for many companies from the tuning and motorsport scene. And we're letting it rip once again to match:
We have two new forged wheels for the racetrack for you.
You will find PROTRACK from November 30th to December 8th in hall 7 at booth E22.
The successful ONE model has really shaken up the wheel market on the racetracks of this world in recent years. So it was hardly surprising that the Flow Forming wheel Y5, which was presented at the Essen Motor Show 2023, also aroused great interest at its premiere. A year has now passed and the Y5 is available at PROTRACK and is being delivered to the waiting customers.
10.0x18” ONE forged weighs a light 8.7 kg when painted and was specially developed for BMW M models in the F series. It will be exhibited in the color silver in the center of the stand on a specially designed display stand. The Y5 forged in the dimension 10.0x19“, which weighs just 8.6 kg in an elegant matt black finish, will also be on display right next to it, while the second available size of the Y5 forged wheel in the dimension 11.0x20” will also be mounted on the rear axle of the BMW M2 G87 exhibited by Robin Glogger from the Instagram channel E30.tv. The Y5 forged wheel will initially be available with a parts certificate and possibly even with the new type-parts approval for the BMW models M2 G87, M3 G80, M3 Touring G81 and M4 G82.
Both forged wheels are expected to be available directly from PROTRACK in the specified dimensions from the first quarter of 2025. Further connections and sizes are in the works and will be announced soon.
Of course, all technical possibilities were exhausted for both wheels in order to reduce weight. Based on extensive computer simulations, the material thickness was reduced in most areas using CNC 5-axis milling technology so that the wheel still fully meets the very high demands of motorsport in terms of strength and rigidity while keeping the weight as low as possible. In order to prevent the tires from slipping on the rim due to the high braking and driving forces (twisting) that occur in motorsport, knurling was also incorporated on both rim shoulders in the area of the contact surface.
"Over the years, our wheels have earned an excellent reputation in the racing and track sports scene. It was therefore only a matter of time before our customers expressed a desire for even lighter forged wheels in addition to the already lightweight Flow Forming wheels.
Of course, we could not ignore this and put all our know-how into the development of the forged versions of the ONE and Y5 designs. Designing a lightweight wheel is not everything. When designing the two wheels, we incorporated all our experience from countless endurance and sprint races, including on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which is notorious for its high loads, into the development. This makes our PROTRACK wheels very different from most other wheels that have been developed purely for road use,” explains PROTRACK Managing Director Christoph Penisch.
To give visitors an idea of what PROTRACK wheels look like on a vehicle, there are two exhibition vehicles on the stand this year.
The BMW M2 G87 by Robin Glogger mentioned above features the Y5 design specially developed for the vehicle, with the Flow-Forming wheel in elegant matt black in the sizes 10.5x19“ mounted on the front axle and 11.5x19” on the rear axle on the driver's side. The passenger side is adorned with the same wheel in silver on the front axle and the new Y5 forged in 11.0x20”, also painted in silver, on the rear axle.
The second exhibition vehicle on the stand is the Golf GTI TCR from Max Kruse Racing. This is the car in which Max Kruse personally completed his first race in the NLS at the Nürburgring this year and which ends the success story of the Golf 7 at Max Kruse Racing. In race trim, the car is fitted with the tried-and-tested PROTRACK ONE wheels in 10.5x18“ on the front axle and 10.0x18” on the rear axle in an easy-care matt black finish.
The RTS GT.II, a two-piece wheel in the classic Y-spoke design of the Swiss brand RTS wheels, which is distributed internationally by PROTRACK, will also be on display at the PROTRACK stand, as will all other available designs in various colors and sizes.
